Potential Mission Trip to Iowa

Posted by St. Anne's Webmaster

The Diocese of Iowa has asked for help with volunteers on the ground in Iowa and monetary donations. Father Jim has asked us to prayerfully consider a mission to Iowa the week of July 26, with a goal of helping with the clean-up efforts, primarily mucking out houses that have been flooded. This will be hard and dirty work but it is much appreciated and needed. If you've been following the stories, you may also have heard that many folks didn't have the appropriate insurance coverage for flood damage. Even with insurance help, our New Orleans mission team knows how difficult a challenge the clean-up is and how much help is needed. The recent flooding has killed several people, displaced thousands from their homes and caused an estimated $1 billion in losses (as of June 19).

Rev Denise has volunteered to support this mission if we have folks to go. We'll keep the trip fairly small (10-14 people) and will take adults and teens 16 years and older. (Eligible teens committed to the Dungannon trip may elect to switch to this trip since they are the same week). If you are interested in this trip, please contact Susan Ficklin, 703-281-5878 as soon as possible.
Please consider if this is your time to serve!

Here's the deal: Bring veggies & meat to throw on the grill, maybe a beverage or salad to share around, your kids, your neighbors, yourself, show up at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy grilling, Episcopal style. Living the Mission Capital Campaign Progress Report

Posted by St. Anne's Webmaster

Total Pledged: $632,971 - Received 5/2008: $553,380 - % pledge: 87.5%

In June, 2005, we finished the pledge drive for St. Anne's Living the Mission campaign and began collecting those pledges. Thank you for your faithfulness in making your pledge payments! We are reaching the end of the three-year collection phase. The financial goals were to retire St. Anne's second mortgage and set aside funds for major maintenance and replacement, freeing up funds in our annual budget for outreach ministries. The Vestry retired the second mortgage as of June 2007 and reallocated the operating funds used to pay the second mortgage monthly bill to outreach ministries - an additional $40,000 in 2007 and in 2008! Additionally, the Vestry has begun setting aside campaign contributions for the capital reserve and funding major building and maintenance projects.

With the campaign drawing to its official close in June, we are still short as much as $80,000 in pledges. Please consider completing your pledge soon – a healthy capital reserve allows the Vestry to focus their attention on our outreach ministries and other ministries.

Thank you for your faithfulness,

Susan Ficklin - Co-chair, Living the Mission Capital Campaign

Nurturing Parent Program

Families are important to St. Anne’s and we are saddened to see families in distress. This program offers classes to help families build stronger relationships among all members. A dinner is provided during each of these classes, demonstrating how much joy and conversation can take place around meal times with family.  We invite St. Anne’s volunteers to help by providing and serving an evening meal to class members and, afterward, providing childcare during the class session.

Contact the church office for more information.

Reston Interfaith Food Pantry

We help to keep the Food Pantry’s shelves well stocked year-round by bringing donations of canned and packaged foods to the church on the first Sunday of every month.  Reston Interfaith distributes the foods collected to Reston and Herndon families in need of emergency food assistance.
