Potential Mission Trip to Iowa

Posted by St. Anne's Webmaster

The Diocese of Iowa has asked for help with volunteers on the ground in Iowa and monetary donations. Father Jim has asked us to prayerfully consider a mission to Iowa the week of July 26, with a goal of helping with the clean-up efforts, primarily mucking out houses that have been flooded. This will be hard and dirty work but it is much appreciated and needed. If you've been following the stories, you may also have heard that many folks didn't have the appropriate insurance coverage for flood damage. Even with insurance help, our New Orleans mission team knows how difficult a challenge the clean-up is and how much help is needed. The recent flooding has killed several people, displaced thousands from their homes and caused an estimated $1 billion in losses (as of June 19).

Rev Denise has volunteered to support this mission if we have folks to go. We'll keep the trip fairly small (10-14 people) and will take adults and teens 16 years and older. (Eligible teens committed to the Dungannon trip may elect to switch to this trip since they are the same week). If you are interested in this trip, please contact Susan Ficklin, 703-281-5878 as soon as possible.
Please consider if this is your time to serve!

Here's the deal: Bring veggies & meat to throw on the grill, maybe a beverage or salad to share around, your kids, your neighbors, yourself, show up at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy grilling, Episcopal style. Living the Mission Capital Campaign Progress Report

Posted by St. Anne's Webmaster

Total Pledged: $632,971 - Received 5/2008: $553,380 - % pledge: 87.5%

In June, 2005, we finished the pledge drive for St. Anne's Living the Mission campaign and began collecting those pledges. Thank you for your faithfulness in making your pledge payments! We are reaching the end of the three-year collection phase. The financial goals were to retire St. Anne's second mortgage and set aside funds for major maintenance and replacement, freeing up funds in our annual budget for outreach ministries. The Vestry retired the second mortgage as of June 2007 and reallocated the operating funds used to pay the second mortgage monthly bill to outreach ministries - an additional $40,000 in 2007 and in 2008! Additionally, the Vestry has begun setting aside campaign contributions for the capital reserve and funding major building and maintenance projects.

With the campaign drawing to its official close in June, we are still short as much as $80,000 in pledges. Please consider completing your pledge soon – a healthy capital reserve allows the Vestry to focus their attention on our outreach ministries and other ministries.

Thank you for your faithfulness,

Susan Ficklin - Co-chair, Living the Mission Capital Campaign

Music

Adult Music Groups

For more information on the groups listed below, contact David Allen, Minister of Music, at music@stannes-reston.org or through the church office.

The Chancel Choir

This choir leads the music at the 9am Sunday service (mid Sep-June). The choir sings a wide variety of music from traditional Anglican to gospel and contemporary. The accompaniment varies from organ and piano to jazz trio or orchestra. The choir also sings at other special services throughout the year. Recently the choir was asked to provide the choral music for a service at the national cathedral. The choir is directed by David Allen and rehearses every Thursday evening. Basic sight reading ability is required.

11:15 a.m. Choir

This is a new choir for the Sunday 11.15am service (mid Sep-June). The choir will rehearse in tandem with the Chancel choir on Thursday evening. The choir sings classic Anglican repertoire. This includes Anglican chant, sung responses, and choral settings of the communion service. The choir is conducted by David Allen. The three requirements to be a member of this choir are:

1. Rehearsal is a must.

2.A good level of music reading ability.

3. Choir robes will be worn for the services.

5pm “COME JUST AS YOU ARE” SINGERS

These are the singers that provide the music for the Sunday 5pm service known as “Come Just As You Are”. This is a one hour informal service of music, prayer and discussion. The singers all use microphones and the accompaniment is keyboard/piano, bass and drums. Rehearsal is at 4.30pm before the service. If you like performing praise and gospel music, then this is a group for you.

THE SUMMER CHOIR

As the title suggests, this is the choir that carries us through the summer. Rehearsal is 30 mins before the summer 10am service. Everyone is welcome to come along. It is a great opportunity to try singing in a choir. The music is fun and not too difficult.
