The Reverend James A. Papile, Rector
St. Anne’s called The Reverend James A. Papile to be its fifth rector in September, 1999.

A third generation Bostonian, Jim is a Red Sox fan by birth and spent his formative years traveling around the world as a member of a military family.  Jim started college at the University of New Hampshire, studying political science.  He then took the next 27 years off to become a farmer, carpenter and construction company owner.  In 1986, he returned to college and completed his degree in philosophy and religion at George Mason University.  In the meantime, he raised five children with his wife, Kay Evans.

Upon graduation from GMU, Fr. Jim attended Virginia Theological Seminary, graduating in 1992 with a Master’s in Divinity.  Jim was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Virginia.

Fr. Jim is proud of his work at St. Patrick’s Anglo-Vietnamese Church in Falls Church, where he served as Vicar before coming to St. Anne’s, developing a congregation that is both English and Vietnamese-speaking. Jim’s vision of a church that is inclusive and diverse has been an excellent match with St. Anne’s  He looks forward to many more years as our rector.

David G. Allen, Minister of Music
David Allen was born and raised near Manchester, England.  David was well known as a boy chorister.  He won many music festivals and was a regular participant in courses run by the Royal School of Church Music.  He sang in the choir at Coventry Cathedral.

As a professional musician, he found his way to London where he spent many years as a music director, composer and conductor.  He conducted the BBC Radio orchestra and later entered the world of musical theatre.  He was the music director at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane before becoming the music supervisor for a Swiss production company bringing Broadway musicals to Europe.  He met his wife, Susan, in New York when she was cast in the European tour of “Oklahoma!”

After moving to the U.S. in 1993, David was hired as a tenor with the men and boys choir of the National Cathedral.  He later became the music director at Washington Plaza Baptist Church and then St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Burke Virginia, before arriving at St. Anne’s in 2000.  David brings to St. Anne’s his love of traditional Anglican music as well as his gifts as a composer and contemporary pianist.
Perry Macdonald, Parish Administrator
A "cradle" Episcopalian, Perry joined St. Anne's in 1992 shortly after moving to Reston with two young sons, Colin (then 5) and Matt (then 3) into their townhouse on Pond View Court.  During the school years that followed, all three spent many hours at Reston's soccer fields, basketball courts and swimming pools.

After stints of secondary teaching and university administration, Perry realized a longstanding goal, graduating from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law in 1985.  She worked as a corporate attorney for several technology-based companies for almost 20 years.  Over the same time period, her volunteer work included the League of Women Voters, a Commissioner for the Reston Soccer Association as well as teaching and outreach at St. Anne's.

Although her work in the office, around the building and assisting the Vestry can keep her busy, Perry still enjoys her own ministries of coordinating the ushers and being on a flower guild team.  She is also excited to be in her fourth year of the Education for Ministry (EFM).
Peg Brown, Parish Administrative Assistant
Chances are that Peg Brown is the first person you will meet as you walk into the Parish Office. You can tell her desk by the frogs she collects. Peg has been on staff for over twelve years; she has been a member of St. Anne’s since 1982. Peg produces all of the church bulletins and the monthly newsletter. She is responsible for parish records, answers the phone, orders supplies, maintains the membership database, and does just about anything else that’s needed in the office.

Born in Gunnison, Colorado, Peg graduated from Western State College in Gunnison with a BA in science. She has lived in Reston since 1979 and has a large, extended family. Nick Brown, her husband, is a retired environmental scientist. Peg’s older daughter, Rini, is married to Mark Segar and lives in North Carolina. Her younger daughter, Arwen, is married to Chris Tinker and has three children, Stryder, Ashton, and Kaylee. They live in Sterling, Virginia.
Susan Allen, Minister of Children's Programs
Susan has been a volunteer in the Children’s Music Program at St. Anne’s since her husband, David, was hired as the Music Minister in June of 2000.  In the fall of 2009, she joined the St. Anne’s staff as the Minister of Children’s Programs.  Her responsibilities include the Children’s Christmas Musical, the Cherub & B Sharp Choirs, Voice for Life Choir and Vacation Bible School.  Susan’s background includes a BFA in Theater from George Mason University, performing in a European Tour of Oklahoma!, and singing locally at the Ritz-Carlton, Blues Alley, and the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.  Susan loves working with the young people of St. Anne’s.  She is dedicated to seeing that our children sing and perform in an arena that allows them to feel safe and loved, growing in confidence, using their gifts, and sharing the love of God with each other and the congregation.  Quoting Susan, "There is nothing more exciting than that!"
